Originally opened as a Civil War museum with a focus on the 1864 Battle of Plymouth, the Port O' Plymouth Museum has become one of the most well-respected historic sites in North Carolina. The museum is housed in the circa 1923 Atlantic Coastline Railroad Station on the Roanoke River and maintains an impressive collection of Civil War artifacts and memorabilia.
