Hallowed Ground Magazine Wins Sixth Consecutive APEX Grand Award for Publication Excellence

Civil War Trust membership magazine recognized for continued editorial achievement

(Washington, D.C.) - The Civil War Trust, the nation's largest nonprofit battlefield preservation organization, is pleased to announce that its membership magazine Hallowed Ground has again earned top honors for outstanding quality.  For the sixth consecutive year, it has received an APEX Grand Award - one of only 100 bestowed out of nearly 2,100 entries in the international contest.

APEX 2014 - the 26th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence - is an international competition that recognizes outstanding publications from newsletters and magazines to annual reports and brochures.  In recognizing Hallowed Ground, the APEX committee focused on the publication's consistent excellence in both editorial content and design, overseen by editor Mary Koik and creative director Jeff Griffith.

In the word of the judges: "The issue is a work of art, using new and archival photos and detailed battlefield maps to give the reader a real sense of what happened, and how the work of preservation continues. Bold pull quotes, dramatic spreads and the use of powerful photographs with interesting perspectives combine to make a first rate design framework for the issue's editorial content. Feature articles are exceptionally well written, covering actual battle histories and preservation campaigns. They capture - and keep - the reader's attention."
