Governor Terry McAuliffe to Join Civil War Trust at Sailor's Creek for Major Preservation Announcement

(Rice, Va.) - On Friday, October 31, 2014, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe will join the Civil War Trust at the Sailor's Creek Battlefield for an exciting announcement about preservation successes at Sailor's Creek and nearby High Bridge Trail State Park.  The event will mark the latest achievements of the ongoing partnership between the Civil War Trust and Commonwealth of Virginia to protect the battlefields during the national sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War (2011-2015).

The news conference will be held on the grounds of Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park visitor center beginning at 12:00 noon.  Joining Governor McAuliffe at the news conference will be Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources Molly Ward, Civil War Trust Chairman Michael Grainger, and officials from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Virginia State Parks, and the Department of Historic Resources.

Following the news conference, there will be a press availability with Governor McAuliffe.  Historians will also be available to discuss the history of this pivotal 1865 battle, which led to the surrender of General Robert E. Lee three days later.  Refreshments will be provided.
