Slave cabins such as these once stood on Fleetwood Hill. Named for the home of John Strode, the hill became the epicenter of the Battle of Brandy Station, the largest cavalry engagement of the Civil War. The hill also witnessed the winter encampment of the Army of the Potomac in 1863-1864
