This park is the site of the earthwork remnants of Fort Davidson, which was assaulted by the forces of Maj. Gen. Sterling Price on September 27, 1864, during the two-day Battle of Pilot Knob. Some 1,200 Confederates fell within an hour in an unsuccessful effort to capture the fort held by Gen. Thomas Ewing Jr. and 1,450 of his men.
