The August 27, 1862, Battle of Kettle Run and the October 14, 1863, Battle of Bristoe Station both took place at this location. This site also served as winter quarters for both Confederate and Federal forces, as well as a cemetery for Confederate soldiers who died in the winter of 1861-62.
