Interior Dept. Officials Join Civil War Trust and National Park Foundation for Battlefield Preservation Announcement
(Sharpsburg, Md.) – On Wednesday, July 5, officials from the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Park Service will join the Civil War Trust and the National Park Foundation at Antietam National Battlefield for an exciting announcement about recent battlefield preservation efforts at Antietam and throughout the nation.
The news conference will begin at 11:30 a.m. near the Antietam National Battlefield Visitor Center. Joining Interior and National Park Service officials at the event will be Civil War Trust President James Lighthizer, Trust Chairman emeritus John L. Nau, III, and National Park Foundation President and CEO Will Shafroth.
The ceremony will occur rain or shine; light refreshments will be available. Please follow the directional signs for parking locations. A public tour of the battlefield will follow the ceremony.

The Civil War Trust is a national nonprofit land preservation organization devoted to the protection of America’s hallowed battlegrounds. Although primarily focused on the acquisition of Civil War battlefields, through its Campaign 1776 initiative, the Trust also seeks to save the battlefields connected to the Revolutionary War and War of 1812.
