(Washington, D.C.) – The Civil War Trust has earned a coveted 4-rating from Charity Navigator, America’s leading charity evaluator, for the fourth consecutive year. According to the watchdog group, fewer than six percent of charities it evaluates earn this consistent level of recognition for their sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
“Savvy donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support with their hard-earned dollars,” Charity Navigator president and CEO Ken Berger said in a letter announcing the honor. “Your organization adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way”
In this newest evaluation, the Trust scored 66.49 out of a possible 70 points – a two point increase over its previous rating.
“Earning a 4-star rating for the fourth consecutive time is true testament to this organization’s ability to be the best possible steward of not only America’s hallowed ground, but of our members’ donations and confidence,” Trust president Jim Lighthizer said. “It’s a reflection of the vigilance and dedication of our members and our staff who understand the importance of our objectives.”
This is only the most recent accolade acknowledging the accountability and integrity of the Trust. The organization recently received a 2012 accreditation from the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance, demonstrating that it has met all 20 of that body’s charity standards. In December 2012, GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations, honored the Trust with a prestigious 2012 Top-Rated Award. The group also received a 2012 Valued Partner Award from Guidestar Exchange and has been named one of the Independent Charities of America’s Best Charities each year since 2005.
