Planning for your trip to the Grand Review

Where will the Grand Review be held in Fredericksburg?

The Grand Review will be held at multiple venues in Fredericksburg. There are no large, full service hotels in downtown Fredericksburg so we’ve booked 2 smaller hotels and also suggest you consider looking into the area bed and breakfasts, many of them located downtown. Registration will be held at Courtyard Fredericksburg Historic District located at 620 Caroline Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. We’ve also booked a block of rooms at Hyatt Place Fredericksburg. There will be shuttles for all events from both the Courtyard and Hyatt Place.

Do I need to stay at the Courtyard Fredericksburg to participate in the Grand Review?

No. You can stay anywhere!

If both of the Trust's room blocks are sold out, what should I do about a room?

First send an email to brepasi@civilwar.org and asked to be put on a waiting list for the Marriott and/or Hyatt. Please include the date of your arrival, departure, any special requests and the best way to contact you. Second, you might also want to consider booking a room at one of the many area bed and breakfasts for a more unique experience: http://www.visitfred.com/bed-breakfasts.

What are my travel options to Fredericksburg?

If you are flying into the area, Richmond International Airport, Ronald Reagan Airport and Dulles International are all approximately 1 hour and 15 minute drive to Fredericksburg. There is also a stop on the Amtrak Train System. From there, car rentals or taxi services will get you to your destination.

What is the parking like at the Marriott and Hyatt?

The Marriott has valet parking on site for $12/day, there is also a parking garage that is self-park for $8.  The Hyatt has plenty of free self-parking.

Will I need a car once I arrive at the hotel for the Grand Review?

All activities that are scheduled will have transportation provided for you to and from the Marriott and the Hyatt. We will also pick up for tours at both the Marriott and they Hyatt.

What else is there to see and do around Fredericksburg?

Who better than the locals to give you a helping hand: http://www.visitfred.com/ as well as our own list of heritage sites around the nation (narrow your search by checking 'Fredericksburg' under the Battlefield drop down)

During the Grand Review

What meals are included in the weekend?

We will provide a full meal on Friday evening at Stevenson Ridge, as part of our 30th Anniversary Dinner Banquet. In addition, we will have heavy appetizers at the Saturday evening reception at the Sentry House, but you may want to make restaurant reservations at a local restaurant if you want a full meal. Breakfast is on your own. If you are staying at the Hyatt, breakfast is included in the price of your room.

What is a personal itinerary and why is it so important?

You will receive a personal itinerary on-site when you register. It will provide you with information about what tours and events you signed up for and when your specific tour lines up for departure. All tours depart at different times, so please be sure to remember when the tour you signed up for departs. We will not hold a bus for you if you are tardy, so please be sure to be on time.

Will there be Civil War Trust merchandise for sale at the Grand Review?

No, I’m sorry, but we will not have Civil War Trust merchandise for sale during this weekend.

What is the attire during for the activities scheduled during the Grand Review?

This is YOUR vacation, and we want you to be comfortable and casual. Long pants and closed toed walking shoes are recommended. You may want to consider bringing a hat, umbrella, sunscreen and bug spray. For our evening events the suggested dress code is as follows:

  • Friday Evening Dinner Banquet: Cocktail/Business Attire (there will also be an opportunity to tour earthworks that were used during the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse before dinner. Please be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes if you plan to tour the earthworks, as the tour ventures into the woods on uneven terrain.
  • Saturday Evening Reception: Business/Casual Attire (with comfortable walking shoes for the house tour portion of the evening.

Please remember to check the weather in advance to help with your packing.
