    America's history

America is losing one acre of Civil War battlefield land every hour!

Shopping malls . . . housing developments . . . highways . . . and other forms of sprawl are destroying the farms, fields and forests where some of America's greatest Civil War battles were fought.

In fact, nearly one-third of this hallowed ground — thousands of acres where North fought South, brother fought brother — is already gone . . . lost and denied forever to future generations. The battlefield land that is preserved in battlefield parks like Gettysburg, Antietam, Shiloh and Vicksburg represents only another 20 percent of where the war was fought, and even those battlefields are not fully protected and preserved!

The Civil War Trust is known nationwide for the quality of our battle maps, showing our 55,000 members exactly which property is to be saved. To introduce you to our essential work, we've also produced animated battle maps that you can conveniently watch from the comfort of your home computer. They will give you a new perspective on each battle, and deepen your understanding of this important era of our history.
