GETTYSBURG CASINO DEFEATED!
On April 14, 2011, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board voted to reject the misguided proposal to build a casino a mere ½ mile south of Gettysburg National Military Park. The decision came following 15 months of activism from the historic preservation community and committed local volunteers.
We couldn’t have done it without you!
Tens of thousands of Americans signed petitions and took other action to help us defeat this proposal. This outpouring of national opposition clearly demonstrated to the Gaming Control Board that while there are many places to build a casino, there is only one Gettysburg and it must be protected.
This is the second time that public outcry has helped defeat an effort to bring gambling to the fringes of this most bloodied of battlefields, and the Civil War Trust remains committed to doing everything in our power to safeguard and protect this hallowed ground.
