Color Bearer Tax Deductions

2012-2013

Dear Color Bearers,

We have recently gotten a number of questions regarding what benefits are not tax deductible. Please know that if you do not attend any Color Bearer events, your full donation is tax deductible.

New Color Bearers that received the book The Civil War 150: An Essential To-Do List for the 150th Anniversary, please know that $14.95 of your donation is not tax deductible.

For those of you that attend all events that are benefits at your membership level, here is a breakdown of your tax deductible donation:

CB Expenses 2012

If donor takes advantage of all benefits offered at their level the following applies:

Regimental:     $1,000 annual gift ($835 deductible; $670 deductible/individual + guest)*
Brigade:           $2,500 annual gift ($2,185 deductible; $1,870 deductible/individual + guest)*
Division:          $5,000 annual gift ($4,190 deductible; $3,380 deductible/individual + guest)*
Corps:             $10,000 annual gift ($9,180 deductible; $8,380 deductible/individual + guest)*
National:          $25,000 annual gift ($24,180 deductible; $23,380 deductible/individual + guest)*

If you attend only one or two of the events, here is a breakdown for each event:

If you attended the March Thank You Weekend in 2012 in Shepherdstown, $90/person that attended is not tax deductible.

If you attended the annual conference Color Bearer tour and Author Dinner in Richmond, $75/person that attended is not tax deductible.

If you attended the Grand Review in Williamsburg, $150/person that attended is not tax deductible.

If you are Division and higher and attended the annual conference at no charge, $495/person is not tax deductible.

If donor takes advantage of all benefits offered at their level the following applies:

Regimental:     $1,000 annual gift ($820 deductible; $640 deductible/individual + guest)*
Brigade:           $2,500 annual gift ($2,170 deductible; $1,840 deductible/individual + guest)*
Division:          $5,000 annual gift ($4,195 deductible; $3,390 deductible/individual + guest)*
Corps:             $10,000 annual gift ($9,195 deductible; $8,390 deductible/individual + guest)*
National:          $25,000 annual gift ($24,195 deductible; $23,390 deductible/individual + guest)*

If you attend only one or two of the events, here is a breakdown for each event:

If you plan to attend the March Thank You Weekend in 2013 in Memphis, $100/person that attended is not tax deductible.

If you plan to attend the annual conference Color Bearer tour and Author Dinner in Jackson, $80/person that attended is not tax deductible.

If you plan to attend the Grand Review in Richmond, $150/person that attended is not tax deductible.

If you are Division and higher and attend the annual conference at no charge, $475/person is not tax deductible.
