The
Spotsylvania Battlefields Coalition
is an informal group of 12 national and local preservation,
conservation and civic groups representing more than 600,000
members nationwide. The coalition is dedicated to preserving
Spotsylvania County's battlefields and raising awareness
of the urgent threats these hallowed grounds currently face.
The Coalition believes that Spotsylvania's battlefields
are an historic resource of a national significance, and
their preservation yields both local and national benefits.
Battlefield
Sierra Group
The Battlefields Sierra Group (BSG) is a 400-member
group sharing the mission of the national Sierra Club to
"explore, enjoy and protect" the natural environment.
BSG serves Fredericksburg and 6 neighboring counties. The
group seeks to protect the environment through local political
and community action, as well as through hands-on projects
like trail maintenance and stream bank restoration, and
education of area citizens.
Central
Virginia Battlefields Trust
The Central Virginia Battlefield Trust (CVBT) was established
in late 1996 by a group of Fredericksburg citizens concerned
with the ever encroaching problems of development. The CVBT's
main goal is to raise the funds needed to buy threatened
lands. CVBT is also active as a facilitator and advocate
for battlefield preservation on a local, state, and federal
level.
Civil War Preservation
Trust
The Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) is a 60,000-member
nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation of our
nation's endangered Civil War battlefield lands. CWPT also
promotes educational programs and heritage tourism initiatives
to inform the public about the war and the fundamental conflicts
that sparked it.

Concerned
Citizens of Spotsylvania (CCS) was first organized in 1996.
The objectives of CCS are to protect and maintain the quality
of life in Spotsylvania County; to monitor county government
at all levels to ensure their decisions reflect the will
of the majority of the people; to preserve the historic
resources of Spotsylvania County; and to encourage high
value employment while preserving the rural setting of the
county.
Friends
of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields
The Friends of Fredericksburg Area Battlefields (FoFAB)
was incorporated on January 2, 1997, to provide advocacy,
educational programs, and special projects for all of the
Fredericksburg area battlefields especially the battlefields
operated by the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National
Military Park. FoFAB is dedicated to providing educational
programs, advocacy, fundraising, and service projects for
the preservation of both National Park Service lands and
privately owned battlefield property in the Fredericksburg,
Virginia area where numerous Civil War battles took place.

of Wilderness Battlefield
The Friends of Wilderness Battlefield's (FOWB) purpose of
is to assist the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National
Military Park in their efforts to preserve the Wilderness
Battlefield in Spotsylvania and Orange Counties. The friends
provide advocacy, educational programs, and service projects
for the battlefield.
National Parks Conservation
Association
Founded in 1919, the National Parks Conservation Association
(NPCA), with 350,000 members, is America's only private,
nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated solely to protecting,
preserving, and enhancing the National Park System.
National
Parks Mid-Atlantic Council (no website available)
The National Parks Mid-Atlantic Council is a volunteer citizens
board formed in 1982 to promote and protect parks in the
Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Park Service. Its members
are concerned individuals living in Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Virginia and West Virginia who volunteer their time to serve
the National Parks.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) has
been helping people protect the irreplaceable for more than
50 years. A private nonprofit organization with more 250,000
members, the National Trust is the leader of the vigorous
preservation movement that is saving the best of our past
for the future. The National Trust for Historic Preservation
provides leadership, education and advocacy to save America's
diverse historic places and revitalize our communities.

Environmental Council
The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) is a 30-year-old
nonprofit
organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the Piedmont's
rural
economy, natural resources, history and beauty. PEC programs
promote land
conservation, intelligent land use planning, protect the
watershed and address local issues of importance.
Spotsylvania
Preservation Foundation, Inc.
The Spotsylvania Preservation Foundation Inc. (SPFI)
of Virginia was established in 1988 to help preserve and
protect Spotsylvania County's natural and historic resources.
We are concerned with the preservation of natural habitats,
archaeological sites, historical landscapes and structures
of historical and architectural significance. As a nonprofit
all-volunteer organization, we are steadfast in our goal
of ensuring the perpetuity of these assets so that future
generations may enjoy and learn from them.
Spotsylvania Battlefield Education Association
The Spotsylvania Battlefield Education Association (SBEA)
has been organized to research, analyze and disseminate
information regarding the battle fought at Spotsylvania
Court House and its environs. Emphasis is on areas not contained
within the boundaries of the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania
National Military Park. SBEA is a nonprofit organization
determined to provide a rich educational experience for
people to learn about the battle of Spotsylvania Court House
in its full social, political and cultural context.
