Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Can I enter photos that were taken by me before the contest start date?

A: Yes; You can enter any photo that you have taken.

  • Q: Do I have to use Flickr to enter my photos?

A: Yes; Our American Civil War Battlefields photo group on Flickr makes it easy to upload photos on a 24x7 basis, allows everyone to see your photos, and it eliminates much of the administrative stress that our small organization would face otherwise. To enter a photo you will need a Flickr account. A free Flickr account can be easily established at Flickr.com.

  • Q: Can I enter my photo into multiple categories?

A: No; Each photo should be entered into only one of our four categories

  • Q: Are there any restrictions on which photos I can enter?

A: Generally, any photo of yours could be an acceptable entry. The only photos that we would restrict are (1) photos that you do not have ownership of (2) and photos that have received awards in previous CWPT photography contests

  • Q: Is there a specific photographic format that you require?

A: We will accept any photo that you can upload into Flickr. Flickr accepts photos in the following popular formats: JPEG, GIF, PNG, and TIFF. Free Flickr accounts can upload photos that are up to 10MB in size. Flickr "Pro" accounts can upload photos that are 20MB or less. Since we plan to use the winning photos in our calendar and magazine we would like you to submit the highest-resolution version of your photos.

  • Q: Is there a limit to the number of photos that I can enter?

A: No, but we would ask that you only enter your best.

  • Q: In the "Then & Now" category where can I find good "Then" photos?

A: The best place to acquire good "Then" photos is the Library of Congress online photo site. Please make sure that the photos you are using are not under any copyright.
