History Center and Classroom
Classroom Visitors
One of our most frequently asked questions is "How can
I find a reenactor to come and talk to my class?"
CWPT is happy to provide a list of living historians
around the country willing to make classroom visits.
Unfortunately, we are not able to evaluate all our
volunteers' skill at interpreting to children, so
teachers should contact reenactors directly and interview
them concerning the material they mean to present.
Most reenactors will need several weeks advance notice and some will request a fee for services.
If you who would like to be on this list, please e-mail the Director of Education at jrosenberry@civilwar.org. Required information: name, portrayal/program material, city state, distance willing to travel, fees, one or both of phone and email. Optional information: address, website, other notes or comments.

There was great interaction and hands-on activities that really got them involved. Victoria shared written information to help us put together An Antebellum Primer for volunteers to continue learning after the workshop. Not only did the participants learn much, they also laughed and had fun. Civil War Railroads (mostly centered on the Eastern Theatre) and how they were used by both sides during the conflict. I also have special presentations on the United States Military Railroad and railroads of local interest - The Orange and Alexandria RR and the Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad. 3. Civil War Logistics and how the understanding and use of logistics was the key to victory for the North. (Note, logistics can be a very boring subject to some but I can assure you that is not the case with my presentation). 4. Civilian Struggles During the Civil War is a national view of the perceptions and coping of 90% of the population that did not carry arms and Local Civilian Struggles centered on Alexandria, which was the American city during the Civil War occupied the longest by an invading and occupying army. 5. Legal and Political Aspects of the Civil War discusses and dissects portions of the U. S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and Gettysburg Address and analyzes how they were used during the war. Although not contentious, the presentation clearly reminds us to never take our American rights and privileges for granted.
