Union and Confederate veterans meet at Gettysburg's Bloody Angle in 1913. (Library of Congress)

Q. In 1913, a group of over 50,000 Union and Confederate veterans gathered on a Northern battlefield to reenact what famous charge?

A. Pickett's Charge

The 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, to which every honorably discharged veteran in the Grand Army of the Republic and United Confederate Veterans was invited, was the largest Civil War veteran reunion in the post-war era.  On July 3, Confederate veterans that had participated in the charge relived their famous action, advancing towards the Bloody Angle, where they met Union veterans with a handshake.
