Q.  What role did Robert E. Lee play in the Battle of Bull Run, the first major battle in his home state of Virginia?

A.  None, he was not there.  Rather, he was in Richmond in a strictly advisory role.  Lee would not take command of Confederate forces in Virginia for nearly a year.

Q.  What celebrated 20th century author's great-grandfather led a regiment at the First Battle of Bull Run?

A.  Nobel laureate William C. Faulkner.  His grandfather, named William C. Falkner (the colonel dropped the 'u') commanded the 2nd Mississippi Infantry in General Bee's Brigade.
