Teaching the Civil War: Regional Institute, Boston, MA
The Civil War Trust is pleased to announce the latest in its professional development offerings. As the Teacher Institute has proven to be such a success over the past ten years, we have decided to extend our programming to include more events each year, starting this fall in Boston.
From the EducatorsMay 2011 As the 2010-2011 school year comes to a close, we hope that it has been a memorable and productive one for you and your students. Here are a few items to look forward to this summer and fall. The 2011 Teacher Institute is quickly approaching and we are finalizing our plans to present the best annual Teacher Institute yet. With our base in Nashville, Tennessee, we have lined up spectacular tours of Franklin, Stones River, and Nashville. If you haven’t signed-up, please do so now and help us reach our goal of 200 attendees! In addition to our annual Teacher Institute, the Trust is very excited to begin offering more professional development opportunities in the form of Regional Teacher Institutes. Our Regional Institutes aim to provide teachers with content knowledge of the American Civil War, provoke thought for innovative instruction, and present Civil War resources in their own backyard. This October we will be hosting our first Regional Institute in Boston, Massachusetts through a generous grant provided by Tauck (http://www.tauck.com/). With a limit of 50 attendees, we suggest you sign-up quickly as space is limited. Finally, if you have not yet entered your best Civil War lesson plan, we encourage you to do so by July 1st. We are anxious to recognize your great work, both by sharing it with your colleagues on our website and through the generous $2,500 grand prize sponsored by HISTORY™ – not too shabby!
