2011 Essay & Postcard Contest Winners
Preserving 150 Years of History: Secession and the War's Beginnings
The 2011 Essay Contest, co-sponsored by the Civil War Trust and HISTORY, encouraged students to discuss the theme: Preserving 150 Years of History: Secession and the War's Beginnings. Students were asked to think about the beginning of the American Civil War and the importance of preservation efforts in protecting its memory. Students submitted their essays and competed for cash prizes provided by HISTORY and a membership to the Civil War Trust. Selected essays are also featured in the Civil War Trust’s magazine, Hallowed Ground.
