Spring Hill Battlefield

Kedron Road, Spring Hill, TN, USA

The prelude to the Battle of Franklin, this battle was fought on November 29, 1864. The main fight was preceded by cavalry skirmishing between Confederate Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and Union Brig. Gen. James H. Wilson. Confederates under Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood crossed the Duck River to assault the reinforced Federal position at the crossroads in Spring Hill. By late afternoon, the piecemeal Southern attack had been repulsed. The victorious Northern troops now had an open road to Franklin where the entire army was congregating in preparation for the next day's massive battle.
