Spotsylvania Court House Historic District

Strategically important on the route to Richmond, Spotsylvania Court House was the scene of one of the bloodiest engagements of the war. The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, one of four Civil War battles that occurred in Spotsylvania County, marked the beginning of the fall of the Confederacy. The county's visitors center offers a 10-minute orientation video to the area's history and information on attractions in the Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and Stafford areas.

To reach the Spotsylvania County Historic District, take the I-95 Spotsylvania exit 126. Take Route 1 South; right onto Southpoint Parkway. Make a left on Courthouse Road (Route 208). After 7 miles take 208 Business (left at stoplight). Park in front of the Holbert Building. To reach the Spotsylvania County Visitors Center- Southpoint (in Fredericksburg), take I-95 to Spotsylvania exit 126. Take Route 1 south to Southpoint Parkway on your left. The Visitor Center will be on your left.
