Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History

The Southern Museum of the Civil War and Locomotive History, a Smithsonian Institution affiliate, allows visitors to glimpse the daily lives of soldiers during the Civil War, relive the excitement of the Great Locomotive Chase, see the stolen locomotive and the General, and examine the role railroads played during the war. The Museum also houses a replica of a post-war locomotive factory.

From I-575 Northbound or Southbound: Take the Chastain Road exit #3 and go west. Chastain Road becomes McCollum Parkway. Go past the airport and turn right on South Main Street (also known at Old Hwy 41). Turn right on Sardis St., turn left on Big Shanty Rd., and immediately back left onto Cherokee St. The Museum parking lot will be on the left. There is bus parking on Big Shanty Road.

Adults $7.50, children four and up $5.50, seniors $6.50; group rates available.


Monday-Saturday 9:30 A.M.-5:00 P.M., Sunday 11:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M.; Closed: New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
