Salem Cemetery Battlefield

367 White Fern Road, Beech Bluff, TN 38313, USA

Self-guided tour brochures are available at the cemetery's main gate. The site has three large monuments, a flagpole, two cannons and a battle map inlay showing the layout of the battle. A historical marker identifies the site. A battle occurred nearby on December 19, 1862, between Lt. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry and Union troops. Approximately one thousand men were engaged in the two-hour battle.

From I-40 east of Jackson, take exit 85 (Christmasville Road); travel south on Paul D. Wright Drive (look for Salem Battlefield sings); proceed 4 miles to Bendix Drive; turn left; proceed 2 miles to Cotton Grove Road; turn left and travel 0.75 mile. Cemetery and battlefield entrance is on the left.
