Pond Spring

12280 Highway 20, Hillsboro, AL 35643, USA

Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler came to Alabama in 1863, during the Civil War, and met Daniella Sherrod, a young widow whom he married in 1866. Pond Spring was the postwar home of Wheeler and his family. The site consists of fifty acres, which are home to ten historic buildings, formal gardens, and three cemeteries. The home is undergoing restoration.

From I-65 take Alabama Highway 20 west; site entrance is at mile marker 53 on Highway 20/U.S. Alternate 72.
