Mansfield State Historic Site

The Battle of Mansfield took place on April 8, 1864. Under the leadership of Gen. Richard Taylor, an army of fewer than 9,000 Confederate soldiers from Texas and Louisiana defeated 13,000 Union troops under Gen. Nathaniel Banks. The day after the Battle of Mansfield, on April 9, the fierce Battle of Pleasant Hill was fought, with both sides taking heavy losses and withdrawing from the field after dark.

The site is located in DeSoto Parish, four miles south of the town of Mansfield on LA 175. For travelers coming from Shreveport, exit I-49 to the town of Mansfield and follow LA 175 south. For travelers coming from Alexandria, take the US 84 exit off I-49, then turn left on LA 175 to arrive at the park.
