Malvern Hill Battlefield

Last of the Seven Days' Battles of the Peninsula campaign, on July 1, 1862, McClellan's II and V Corps retreated along the James River and defended the strong natural position of Malvern Hill against Lee's assault. While the Army of the Potomac continued its retreat, it inflicted great losses on the disorganized Confederate forces.

Directions

Traveling north on I-95: take exit 74C, which merges onto 17th Street. Take 17th Street to Broad Street (4 blocks). Turn right on Broad Street and stay on it to 14th Street (3 blocks). Turn left on 14th Street and stay on it to Canal Street. Turn right and stay on Canal Street to 5th Street (9 blocks). Turn left on 5th Street and stay on it to Tredegar Street (2 blocks). Turn right on Tredegar Street and then turn right again into the parking lot for the American Civil War Center and Richmond National Battlefield Park's Civil War Visitor Center.
