Driving tour features sites associated with the November 1863, attempt by Confederate Lt. Gen. James Longstreet to capture Knoxville and the army of Union Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside. Tour sites include: Longstreet's headquarters, Fort Dickerson, cemeteries, hospitals, site of mortal wounding of Brig. Gen. William P. Sanders, and the site of the unsuccessful attack on Fort Sanders.

From I-40 take exit 388 to Western Avenue. Turn left on Western Avenue, which becomes Summit Hill Avenue. Turn left onto Gay Street; the visitors center is on the right.
