Kentucky State Capitol

700 Capitol Avenue Loop, Frankfort, KY 40601, USA

The rotunda of Kentucky's handsome 1910 state capitol features statues of prominent Kentuckians, including Abraham Lincoln (sculpted by A. Weinman) and Jefferson Davis (sculpted by Frederick C. Hibbard). Both leaders were born in Kentucky, less than a year a part and less than 100 miles in distance. In 1904, the Kentucky legislature appropriated $1 million, a dept collected from the U.S. War Department as reparations for damages inflicted by Federal soldiers during the Civil War, to build the new capitol.
