Grant's Canal, Byerley House

600 Lake Street, Lake Providence, LA 71254, USA

Grant's Canal Park and Lake Overlook are located on U.S. 65. The canal is all that remains of Grant's 1863 attempt to circumvent the fortifications at Vicksburg through the backwaters of Louisiana, and is approximately 1,000 feet long. The western end of the canal can be viewed from the 600-foot pier and nature walk, which also offers a view of Lake Providence. Byerley House, adjacent to the park, serves as a visitor information center.

Directions

From Vicksburg take I-20 west to Tallulah. In Tallulah take the U.S. 65 north exit to Lake Providence. Grant's Canal and Byerley House are located on U.S. 65 at the eastern end of Lake Providence.
