General John Hunt Morgan's Brandenburg Raid

Follow the four-day action of Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan's raid on this scenic Ohio River community, a well-known shipping and trading center throughout much of the nineteenth century. A free brochure chronicles the Confederate leader's July 6-9, 1863, time here, which included a skirmish on the river and burning of a steamer named the Alice Dean. The brochure is available at the local chamber of commerce office or the public library.

Directions

From I-64 at Corydon, Indiana, take exit 62; travel on State Highway 135 south (approximately 20 miles) and cross the Ohio River. Take Highway 1051; at four-way stop, turn left on High Street/Highway 79 and proceed 2 miles. Chamber office is inside City Hall at 735 High Street. The library is located at 400 Library Place (off Broadway/Highway 448).
