Fort Adams

90 Fort Adams Drive, Newport, RI 02840, USA

Fort Adams, a National Historic Landmark built between 1824 and 1857, is the United States' most complex coastal fortification with extensive land and sea defenses. Active through WWII, at the start of the Civil War it housed the underclassmen of the U.S Naval Academy, -- then recently evacuated from Annapolis, Maryland.

Directions

From North (Boston), take I-93 south to Rt. 24 south. Route 24 turns into 114 south. Turn left onto Route 214, which merges onto 138a, which becomes Memoral Blv. Turn left onto Belleview, then right onto Ruggles Ave. Take a left onto Beacon Hill road, and continue straight onto Harrison Ave. The Entrance to Fort Adams State Park will be on your right. From South, take I-95 to Exit 3. Continue east on 138 and turn left onto Rt. 1 North. After approximately 5 miles take the exit for Rt. 138 east. Take the Newport Pell Bridge and take the first exit to downtown Newport (138A/238 South). After the ramp, take a right onto Farewell Ave (138A/238 South). Continue and bare right onto America's Cup Ave. Follow south onto Thames Street and turn right onto Wellington Ave. Turn right onto Harrison Ave after the Ida Lewis Yacht Club and continue on Harrison Ave (keep right). The Entrance to Fort Adams State Park will be on your right.
