Confederate Memorial Park at Winstead Hill

General Hood's troops formed on Winstead Hill before the Battle of Franklin. A memorial to the Army of Tennessee stands on the hill today. The overlook features a large military map and memorials to the Confederate generals who died in the battle in 1864.

From I-65 take exit 65 and travel west on Highway 96 for 0.25 mile to Mack Hatcher Bypass; turn left and proceed to the end of the bypass; turn left on Highway 31. Winstead is the first hill on the right.

Visitor Services

Historical markers, overlook, 3-D map. Note: Access to monument requires a climb up stairs to the top of the hill.
