Camp Nelson Confederate Cemetery

Cabot, AR, USA

While camped near Old Austin, Arkansas, a large group of Texas Confederate soldiers were stricken by a measles epidemic, which caused the deaths of several hundreds. The soldiers were buried near the encampment. In 1907, the general assembly appropriated funds to move the remains into the area that became the cemetery, but the remains were not identified on the stone markers. A monument at the cemetery tells the story.
