Atlanta History Center

Visit the Atlanta History Center, located on 33 acres in the heart of Buckhead. The History Center includes one of the Southeast's largest history museums with six permanent exhibitions including the award-winning exhibit Turning Point: The American Civil War; two historic houses including 1928 Swan House and 1860's Tullie Smith farm; Centennial Olympic Games Museum; six historic gardens; and the Kenan Research Center. The History Center also includes the Margaret Mitchell House, located at the midtown campus. Throughout the year, visitors enjoy lecture series with award-winning authors, toddler programs, home school days, summer camps, music series, annual festivals such as Sheep to Shawl and much more.

From I-75 take the West Paces Ferry Road exit. Go east 2.6 miles on West Paces Ferry Road and the Atlanta History Center is on the right.

Visitor Services

Public rest rooms, handicap access, Chick-fil-A serving lunch, gift shop, museum with 6 permanent exhibitions, traveling exhibits, library and archives, 6 historic gardens and wooded trails, historic homes, picnic areas.

Admission Fee

Adults $16.50, seniors (65+) and students (13-18) with ID $13.00, youths (4-12) $11.00, children (4 and under) free. Group rates available with a reservation (call 404-814-4062). Purchase online and save at Tours of Swan House and Smith Family Farm cannot be reserved online.


Museum Hours: Monday-Saturday: 10:00 A.M.-5:30 P.M., Sunday: 12:00-5:30 P.M. Gardens and Grounds close at 5:15 PM. Swan House Tours: Monday - Saturday 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Sunday 1:00-4:00 PM. Smith Family Farm: Monday- Saturday 11:30 AM- 3:30 PM, Sunday 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Kenan Research Center: Wednesday - Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. All sites closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Kenan Center also closed on November 23 and 24.
