Dear Civil War Preservationist,

Friends, thank for your kind birthday wishes. With each passing year, I continue counting my blessings: good health, great friends and family, and amazing partners, like you. Thanks to your support, we've saved more than 38,500 acres of hallowed ground at some of the most sacred sites in the nation.

And although we should be proud of this immense success, we remain intensely focused on the task at hand: to stop the desecration of our nation's Civil War battlefields, places hallowed by the blood of thousands of Americans 150 years ago. Today, I ask you to stand with me and help save another absolutely crucial 57 acres at the June 1862 Glendale Battlefield, where we've already saved more than 600 acres. And with this exciting challenge of saving this much land with a $4.25-to-$1 match of your donation dollar, we will save an irreplaceable piece of our nation's past that, but for us, will soon be just another blot of ugly suburban sprawl.

This sacred soil is located at the most strategic part of this battlefield – where Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, new to the job as commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, sought to reach the critical crossroad junction and cut the retreating Union Army of the Potomac in half.

Today, these 57 acres represent a HUGE opportunity, since they are some of the largest tracts of land we have had the chance to save north of the Darbytown Road. Make no mistake: if we hesitate, there will be multiple houses on this land in 10 years' time – and likely even a gas station or convenience-store-type development!
