Historic Sites Need Your Help!

As spring arrives across the country, our battlefields and historic sites are gearing up for the influx of visitors that warmer weather always brings. For the 17th year, the Civil War Trust is proud to sponsor Park Day, a national clean-up effort. On April 6, volunteers are needed at more than 100 sites in 24 states to assist with projects ranging from landscaping to monument maintenance. Find a site near you and lend a hand to help our historic places shine.

From Our President

Jim Lighthizer Photo

March 2013
Dear Civil War Preservationist,

Civil War Trust members believe passionately in our mission of protecting and safeguarding the places where American history unfolded for future generations, a fact they demonstrate through their remarkable and consistent generosity. But many often ask me what else they can do to help protect this hallowed ground. And this month, I have the perfect opportunity to offer these eager folks: Park Day.

For many historic sites, this is the largest labor force they'll see all year, and the droves of volunteers enable significant and ambitious maintenance and capital improvement projects. Bring your friends, neighbors and kids to this family friendly project — you may introduce someone to a lifetime love of history. Because projects, start times and other specifics vary from site to site, please check our Park Day website or contact your destination directly to confirm individual details.

- Jim Lighthizer, Civil War Trust President
