Save Cedar Creek

The Civil War Trust just announced a new campaign to save 77 remarkable battlefield acres at Cedar Creek. Here's our chance to save the very ground where the 8th Vermont made their sacrificial stand…and where one of only three battlefield monuments stands. The second parcel includes land where Maj. Gen. Phil Sheridan arrived to rally his broken army. The powerful Federal counterattack produced a victory that helped Abraham Lincoln win his 1864 Presidential Campaign.

February 2012
Dear Civil War Preservationist,

February 2012 is off to a smoking hot start. The two tracts that we, with your help, will save at Cedar Creek are some of the most historic places we've ever saved in the Shenandoah Valley. To help acquaint you with this opportunity, we've amassed a lot of great materials -- photos, videos, history articles, maps and even a rendition of "Sheridan's Ride" by our own Doug Ullman. I hope this information will expand your appreciation of why we have to save this hallowed ground.

And did you hear the announcement from the Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar? Earlier this month, Secretary Salazar, NPS Director Jon Jarvis, and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell announced a plan where the Richmond National Battlefield Park will receive $4m to purchase battlefield land in the Richmond area, including land currently owned by the Trust. No better news could have been delivered that day.
