Media Advisory: State Park Alliance Leads Charge in Culpeper Battlefields Cleanup
(Culpeper, Va.) – The Brandy Station and Cedar Mountain State Park Alliance will team up with local volunteers to aid in the maintenance and restoration of the Brandy Station and Cedar Mountain battlefields near Culpeper, Virginia as part of Park Day, a nationwide effort sponsored by the Civil War Trust that includes more than 130 historic sites in 30 states. Thousands of volunteers across the country will participate as Park Day celebrates over 20 successful years on Saturday, April 1, 2017.
About 50 people are expected at Culpeper’s Park Day events. Activities at Brandy Station and Cedar Mountain begin at 9:00 a.m. and include interpretive trail clearing, brush removal and trash pickup.
“Park Day is one of our favorite — not to mention one of the most family-friendly — events of the year,” said Diane Logan, President of the Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield. “We are grateful to the volunteers of all ages who choose to spend some time outdoors with us in helping to protect Culpeper’s historic treasures.”
“Culpeper’s battlefields are stewarded by a small but dedicated group of volunteers. Park Day provides much-needed assistance with maintenance and cleanup, while encouraging Virginians to engage with the history in their backyards,” said Brandy Station Foundation President William Truitt.
Volunteers will receive T-shirts and light refreshments. To sign up for a Park Day event in Culpeper, contact Richard Deardoff with the Brandy Station Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org or Diane Logan with the Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield at email@example.com.
