Hallowed Ground Magazine Wins Fourth Consecutive APEX Grand Award for Publication Excellence

Civil War Trust’s membership magazine recognized for continued editorial achievement

(Washington, D.C.) – The Civil War Trust, the nation’s largest nonprofit battlefield preservation organization, is pleased to announce that its membership magazine Hallowed Ground has again earned top honors for outstanding quality.  For the fourth consecutive year, it has received an APEX Grand Award — one of only 100 bestowed out of nearly than 3,400 entries in the international contest.  Of the 14 magazine titles to receive Grand Awards, Hallowed Ground was one of only four produced by small nonprofit organizations.

APEX 2012 — the 24th Annual Awards for Publication Excellence — is an international competition that recognizes outstanding publications from newsletters and magazines to annual reports and brochures.  According to the APEX 2012 judges, “Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence.”

Apex 2012 logoIn recognizing the editorial and design quality of Hallowed Ground, the judges issued the following citation:  “Beautiful photo spreads, striking typography, a layout jam packed (in a good way) with photo sidebars, usefully long captions and well-drawn illustrations — the design is equally matched by well-written, interesting narratives which easily hold the reader's attention.”

About the APEX Awards
The APEX Awards for Publication Excellence is an annual competition for writers, editors, publications staff and business and nonprofit communicators. It is sponsored by Communications Concepts, Inc., publishers of business communication reports, including Writing that Works, a subscription bimonthly for professional communicators.  The 2012 APEX Awards competition featured 130 communications categories, in 11 main groupings.
