BnBFinder Inns Commemorate Civil War Sesquicentennial by Donating Portion of Bookings to Save Battlefields
(New York, N.Y.) - History isn’t always forever. That includes the American Civil War and its battlefields. Much of the land from the historic war either has been destroyed or is sitting unprotected and vulnerable to development. According to The Civil War Trust, a non-profit organization established to preserve the land on which these battles took place, only 20% of the actual land fought on during the war is being preserved. Through their work the Civil War Trust is looking to save even more.
This year marks the Civil War Sesquicentennial and select BnBFinder inns are helping to save its history one battlefield at a time. “Many of our inns have strong ties to the Civil War,” said Mary White, founder of BnBFinder and author of the book, Running a Bed and Breakfast For Dummies. “Not only are some located on or near former battlefield sites, but others were built during or before the war began and survived. We’re excited to be partnering with the Civil War Trust and helping them save these treasured lands.”
In partnership with the Civil War Trust, select BnBFinder inns will be donating a portion of each booking as part of the “Reservations for Preservation” program beginning this year through May 2015 to support the organization’s efforts to protect and preserve this land and educate the public about its historical value. Additionally, select BnBFinder inns are offering Civil War-themed packages including tours of battlefields and other sites, reenactments, 1860s-themed meals and more.
