CWPT Meets its Third Winchester Fundraising Commitment
$380,000 raised to save the 209 acre Huntsberry Farm Tract
Back in September 2009 I wrote to you about our partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation to protect the historic Huntsberry tract on the Third Winchester battlefield. At the time of my last writing we were still $78,500 short of CWPT's $380,000 fundraising goal.
With our backs up against the wall I turned to you, our dedicated members, to help close this yawning gap. And like a veteran brigade determined to carry its objective, you came through once more. Earlier this month CWPT reached its target - our organization's commitment is met.
Of course, this project is not yet complete. Our friends at the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation are still working toward completing their own $377,000 commitment to protecting this historic landscape.
The response we received from CWPT members for this campaign to help save this important 209 acre tract was truly inspiring. Your generous donations poured forth; your words of encouragement bolstered us in this tough fight.
We continue to live in perilous times where I know you have felt the sting of this tough economy. This makes our success all the more wonderful. Now, we must put our heads down, and charge into the fray once again (no rest for the weary!), working as hard as we can to raise critical last-minute funds to help secure even more hallowed ground in Virginia, using us the remaining matching funds that state has provided. Many thanks for all you have already done for the cause of battlefield preservation!
