Music Star Darryl Worley Joins Fight to Save Battlefields

Worley partners with CWPT to save Civil War battlefield land

(Washington, D.C.) - The Civil War Preservation Trust is the largest non-profit organization in America devoted to the preservation of our nation's endangered Civil War battlefields.

By preserving significant Civil War battlefields, the Civil War Preservation Trust protects and defends our nation's irreplaceable historical, cultural, and environmental resources. CWPT also promotes educational programs and heritage tourism initiatives to inform the public about the war, the fundamental conflicts that sparked it, and the incredible sacrifice and heroism of all who fought.

The tangible remains of America's Civil War heritage — the battlefields — are disappearing at a rate of one acre every ten minutes. The places where over 620,000 of our ancestors died to forge this nation — places like Shiloh, Manassas, Chancellorsville — are being lost to the strip malls and parking lots of urban sprawl. Darryl Worley and the Civil War Preservation Trust believe that these battlefields are important, special places that must remain untouched forever — for contemplation, for learning, for honoring the sacrifice of Americans of an earlier generation — and that these hallowed grounds, once preserved, should be made available to the American public for all time.

Darryl Worley grew up steeped in the history of the monumental conflict that tore this nation apart only to forge it into the greatest country in the history of the world. Growing up near the Shiloh battlefield, Darryl knows firsthand the beauty of these once-scarred landscapes, and has experienced the echoes of those long-ago battles. Darryl wants to share his love of these places with a wider public, and sound a call to arms to inspire others to get involved in saving these hallowed grounds while there's still time. Ground once soaked in American blood now stands vulnerable to the bulldozer. The opportunity to step in and do something — to save this endangered historic land; to give something back to America as a permanent gift to the nation — is an opportunity that is open to all of us, and Darryl is committed to leading the way as an example and committed spokesman.

The Civil War Preservation Trust is the largest battlefield preservation organization in the United States. We are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit group with more than 60,000 members nationwide. To date, CWPT and its affiliated organizations have saved more than 19,000 acres (and counting!) of endangered Civil War battlefield land at 80-plus sites in 19 states. CWPT invites anyone interested in giving back to this great country to join this urgent, important and uniquely American effort.

The Civil War Preservation Trust salutes Darryl's involvement and work on behalf of the American soldier, and congratulates him on yet another fine album!
