How do I know if I was accepted?
The Teacher Institute is open to all K-12 teachers, there is no application, only registration. As soon as you register you are all set and on our list of attendees!
What is the $100 deposit for?
This deposit ensures attendance. If you do not attend the institute or cancel after June 17, 2011 we will not refund your deposit. If you attend you can either have it refunded or you can donate it to the organization.
Who is eligible to attend?
Any educator that works with students in grades kindergarten through 12, not just history teachers.
Can I bring a friend or family member?
No, people who are not educators may not register or attend the Teacher Institute. However, guests are welcome to attend Friday night's dinner featuring Robert Hicks and Saturday evening's reception. There is an option on the registration form to bring guests to these portions of the event. Guests must pay their costs for these events either by check or cash at the Teacher Institute sign-in table at the beginning of the event. The price for Friday's dinner is $50 and Saturday's reception is $30 - cash bar not included in this price.
Do you offer continuing education credits?
Yes, be sure to mark that you would like to receive them on your registration.
Credits will be awarded based on what programs you attend. Pre-Conference = .5 CEUs for 5 contact hours. Teacher Institute = 1.5 CEUs for 15 contact hours. Optional Tour = .5 CEUs for 5 contact hours. Therefore, if you attend just the Teacher Institute, you will receive 1.5 CEUs, but if you attend the Teacher Institute and either the Pre-Conference Workshop or Optional Tour you will receive 2.0 CEUs, and if you attend all three - the Teacher Institute, the Pre-Conference Workshop, and the Option Tour you will receive 2.5 CEUs.
Continuing education credits will be mailed to your home following the Teacher Institute.
Will you offer scholarships?
Yes, scholarships will be offered. Scholarships cover the cost of travel and lodging (3 hotel nights) as well as the Pre-Conference Workshop. The application period has closed.
When will I know what tours I am in?
We will provide you with your tour information in an e-mail about a week before the institute. Once you receive the e-mail you will be able to reply with any requests for changes.
What if I have to cancel?
Refunds for cancellations will be available until June 17, 2011. To cancel: contact Teacherinstitute@civilwar.org - title your e-mail with your name and the word, "cancellation."
