Following the Institute each year participants are asked to complete an evaluation, letting the Civil War Trust know what worked well and how we can improve. During the past nine years participants have asked for more battlefield tours and an increase in technology workshops.
In order to address the collective feedback and stay within our limited budget, we have restructured both the length and cost of the program. The 2011 Teacher Institute will consist of a two-day program bookended by optional events. The Teacher Institute will be free to educators while the optional programs entail nominal fees only to offset the Civil War Trust’s additional costs. Civil War Trust membership is required to attend the Teacher Institute.
Description: A five-hour workshop focused on teaching the Civil War with technology. The pre-conference workshop will feature presentations from technology experts working in the field of history as well as a general meeting space for teachers to work with the experts, using the presented programs.
Date: July 14, 2011
Additional Requirements: To fully benefit from the workshop all participants are asked to bring laptops. Wi-fi will be provided in the meeting space as well as in sleeping rooms.
Description: A two-day program, similar to past Teacher Institutes. Day one will feature a group lunch with historian lecture, multiple workshops, a group dinner with a presentation, and exhibits. Day two will feature battlefield tours of Franklin and Stones River (Murfreesboro).
Date: July 15 & 16, 2011
Cost: As it has been for the past nine years, the Teacher Institute is provided free of charge for all K12 educators.
All Teacher Institute attendees must be members of the Civil War Trust.
