Please note: Enjoy a day of stewardship and history at Minute Man National Historical Park. This Spring, join fellow volunteers for Park Day 2017 on Saturday, April 1. Volunteers will be rehabilitating the Parker's Revenge site. Activities will include removing invasive plants, raking ground, and spreading native seed. The day will start at 10:00 am in the Minute Man Visitor Center on Route 2a. There will be some refreshments and a talk about the history Parker’s Revenge and the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The group will then walk to the Parker's Revenge site. Minute Man NHP commemorates the first Battle of the American Revolution. On April 19, 1775, the militias and minutemen of the Massachusetts countryside, in order to preserve their liberty, fought against the British regulars. One of those brave men was Captain John Parker; after a devastating skirmish earlier in the morning, he and a contingent of the Lexington militia successfully confronted the British regulars along the Bay Road in the afternoon. After extensive archeological work in 2015, the location of this confrontation, called Parker’s Revenge, was identified. A reinterpretation of the area is currently underway. Volunteers who give their time on Park Day will have the opportunity to be a part of a new chapter taking shape at Minute Man NHP. This is a great way for the whole family to give back to the park and learn some history along the way. The activity will end at 12:00 noon.
