SATURDAY, March 2, 2013

Please understand that these tours will last all day with early departures and late returns. You will need to be prepared for a lengthy bus ride of 1 ½ to 2 hours each way. The only time we will be able to accommodate requests to depart the tour early will be at the lunch break.

 

A boxed breakfast and coffee to go will be provided. Meet in hotel lobby.

7:15 am – 6:00 pm
Battle of Shiloh Staff Ride Battlefield Tour with Brig. Gen. Parker Hills (Ret.), **HEAVY walking tour.** This tour not only covers the battle history, but will discuss leadership, history and psychology. 7:15 am - 6:00 pm
Battle of Shiloh Walking Tour with Dr. Timothy Smith - Moderate walking tour.

7:45 am – 5:30 pm
Battle of Corinth - Limited walking option. This tour will offer opportunities to do some walking at a variety of stops, but much of the talking will take place on or near the bus. You can choose to remain on the bus if you aren’t up for walking at some of the stops.

9 am – 11:30 am
Civil War Memphis Walking Tour This walking tour will include visits to Fort Pickering to see the Civil War powder magazines built into giant Indian mounds, the old Navy yard, and the previous site of the US Colored Troop camp; Jefferson Park where several prominent citizens are memorialized and from where you can see the site of the Sultana disaster; Confederate Park, from where you can see the site of the Battle of Memphis; Court Square, a central meeting place in memphis for almost two centuries; the former site of the State Capitol building; and finally, Nathan Bedford Forrest's former residence.

Civil War Bus Tour This bus tour will include stops at the Hunt-Phelan Home, where Grand and Sherman planned their famous battles, Vicksburg and inland campaigns, respectively; Confederate Park, from where you can see the site of the Battle of Memphis and the Sultana disaster; Columbus Park and Nathan Bedford Forrest's former residence; and Fort Pickering, where we will see Civil War powder magazines built into giant Indian mounds, the old Navy yard, and the previous site of the US Colored Troop camp. This tour will involve some walking around each site.
